McGrath Sets Chef’s Table at Market

The iconic Orange Farmer’s Market educational event, Chef’s Table will launch again this Saturday after a 17-month departure thanks to generous support from real estate agency McGrath Orange.

Held at the Naylor Pavilion at the Orange Showground during the cooler months, the Orange Farmer’s Market has offered essential grocery shopping continuously throughout the COVID pandemic.

“We always promise to hold the market rain, hail or shine on the second Saturday of every month,” Orange Farmers Market committee president Richard Dowling said. “Thanks to funding from Newcrest Mines, and the support of Rotary Daybreak we are able to work towards introducing grocery pre-ordering on our website and implement all the important COVID safety measurements to keep the markets going.

While the market continued monthly, the popular Chef’s Table events were cancelled during the worst of the pandemic when shoppers were encouraged to shop and go.

The Chef’s Table sees local and visiting chefs demonstrate how to cook with products available at the Orange Farmers Market with tastings and a recipe available for those attending the market. McGrath Orange will introduce a method of airing the event across social media platforms.

“McGrath Orange approached the Orange Farmers Market committee at the start of the year to see how we could assist with the Chef’s Table.” said McGrath Orange director Josh Fitzgerald, “The Chef’s Table is a fantastic extension to the market as an education tool and a way to connect local chefs, local producers and shoppers so we wanted to find a way to make it continue.”

By establishing a live broadcasting network, McGrath Orange plan to televise the Chef’s Table events across social media every market while a limited number of shoppers can watch the event on-site.

“Without greater Sydney tourists bolstering the market crowd, we are keen to encourage as many local residents to attend the COVID safe Orange Farmers Market this Saturday,” Richard Dowling said.

“Now we can offer those who love the markets a chance to be involved no matter where they live by broadcasting the Chef’s Table event and hopefully it will encourage tourists to visit the market in person once COVID restrictions ease.”

The three primary aims of the Orange Farmers Market are:

  • To support and stimulate the profitable trading and business growth of independent primary producers, hobby farmers, community and home gardeners, and associated produce value-adders.
  • To provide customers with regular supplies of high-quality fresh food and access to improved nutrition.
  • To contribute to the economic and social capital of the Orange community, and to work in conjunction with the other Farmers Markets in the Central Ranges.

The Orange Farmers Market is an integral part of the local community and aims to provide various social benefits including food and nutrition education, the regeneration of community spirit, rural/urban linkages and support for community projects.
